Frequently Asked Questions

Program:

What are “Marquee Talks”?

The “Marquee” designation is new this year! Marquee Talks will be featured during prominent slots, close to keynotes with no other overlapping programming to ensure the entire audience can experience them. Marquee Talks are designed to touch on high-demand subjects with broad relevance.

What is the difference between Track 1 and 2?

RustConf splits into two tracks following our morning programming blocks on Wednesday and Thursday. There is no particular focus for either track, although the schedule can be sifted into categories this year to help you design your ideal experience. We designed the schedule so that talks covering similar topics are never scheduled against one another to reduce hard decisions!

How will “Rust Global” work this year?

Rust Global is the Rust Foundation’s event series dedicated to discussions about the professional use of Rust across the world in enterprise and government settings. This year, we are experimenting with a new Rust Global format: relevant talks are tagged with “Rust Global” and incorporated right into the rest of the program—no special registration required!

What can you tell me about the UnConference?

The RustConf UnConference is a beloved RustConf tradition! Essentially, the UnConference is a place for freeform, roundtable discussions about Rust with other Rustaceans. We are still finalizing logistical UnConf details but will open up registration separately in the near future. The UnConf will be free to attend for any RustConf ticket holder (while capacity remains) and will take place on Friday, September 5. Stay tuned for more information.

I can’t attend RustConf in person. What will the virtual experience look like?

If you attended RustConf last year, it will work similarly! We will feature a Discord server again with special channels tailored to valuable discussions with other attendees, organizers, and sponsors. We will offer a livestream again this year.

What is your ticket cancellation/refund policy?

We understand that plans often change, particularly during the current uncertainty around global travel. Because we want to ensure all Rustaceans interested in attending RustConf can claim a spot while passes remain, even if they are unsure about their ability to receive a visa or their future comfort with traveling to the United States, we have designed a policy that is as flexible as possible. Please review our cancellation and policy below:

Cancellations due to visa issues, changed travel requirements/restrictions, or travel issues of any kind:

  • You can cancel and receive a refund up until Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Cancellations for all other reasons:

  • Up to 10 days before the event: You are eligible for a full refund including all processing fees.
  • Between 7 and 9 days before the event: You will receive a 50% refund of the ticket price, minus all processing fees.
  • Less than 1 week before the event: Unfortunately, we will not be able to refund your ticket. This is due to the many demands upon our funding and our duty to use this responsibly for the health of the Rust language ecosystem.

Refund Process

You may request a refund under the parameters above by forwarding your confirmation email to rustconf@rustfoundation.org and including “refund request” at the top of the email.

If you have any questions, you can contact our support team at rustconf@rustfoundation.org using the email address you used to register. Refunds will be processed to the original method of payment. Please allow up to 7 business days for the refund to appear in your account.

  • In the event that RustConf 2025 is canceled or rescheduled, attendees will receive a full refund, regardless of when the cancellation occurs.
  • Event transfers: Tickets are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, please follow our cancellation process to request a refund.

Finally, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances or changes to your plans. If you’d like to learn more about travel insurance, check out this resource (don’t be put off by its retro design! There is a lot of helpful information on this site).

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you at RustConf 2025!

Will workshops be livestreamed or recorded?

No, workshops/Async Day is an in-person experience only.

Registration:

Why aren’t you offering a local ticket option this year?

We are partnering with the Seattle Rust User Group to fill volunteer slots in exchange for free conference access, so we already expect a great turnout from the local community. 🎉

How will your volunteer process work this year?

This year, we are partnering with the Seattle Rust Meetup Group to solicit interested volunteers to help us with various event management tasks. In exchange, we will be giving each volunteer a free pass to RustConf. If there are any extra volunteer slots to fill, we will share an update with our wider audience.

Travel:

How can I get a visa invitation letter?

You will receive a link to request a visa letter if needed in your RustConf registration confirmation email.

Can I get a visa invitation letter if I have not registered for RustConf?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide you with an accurate visa letter without a confirmed record of your plans to attend. You will receive a link to request a visa letter if needed in your RustConf registration confirmation email.

I live outside the United States and have concerns about traveling there at the moment. What is your response to this?

We are very excited to host RustConf in beautiful Seattle, having jumped on reserving this venue in October 2024, and we feel that offering a Rust conference in North America is important. With that said, we also understand that for many of you, traveling to the United States in 2025 might not feel like an option. The RustConf team understands and empathizes with these concerns; they are heavily influencing our 2026 plans. We look forward to announcing the RustConf 2026 location onstage this September. Our onsite team will be available to field any concerns onsite attendees visiting from outside the US might have

I will be attending RustConf in person this year. How should I plan my trip?

If you are registering for a workshop/Async Day, we encourage you to arrive in Seattle on Monday (September 1) afternoon/evening so you can settle in ahead of your day-long workshop on Tuesday. If you are not planning to register for a workshop/Async Day, you should plan to arrive in Seattle Tuesday morning/afternoon so you can check in and collect your badge during our “pre-registration” period. Collecting your badge early will significantly improve your experience when the event officially kicks off on Wednesday, September 3, as the registration window on Wednesday morning will be quite short.

Is there a hotel room block?

No, there is no hotel block or special RustConf discount code. With that said, the Seattle downtown area has a number of different hotels and accommodations across a range of price points. A few recommendations are listed here.

Policies:

Where can I learn more about your health and safety policies?
How will my information be shared with sponsors this year?

This year, we are asking RustConf attendees whether or not they are willing to have their email addresses shared with our sponsors. You are free to opt out. Sponsors are asked to only contact attendees with relevant material.
