Health & Safety at RustConf 2026
The information on this page outlines both the rules and expectations you are required to abide by as a RustConf attendee as well as health and safety resources to lean on if needed during the event. We know that everyone has a slightly different set of measures that make them feel safe (especially at an in-person gathering,) but our hope is that the policy below accommodates a large percentage of our audience in a way that remains genuinely enforceable.
As your hosts, we want to ensure that all RustConf guests are aware of our health and safety policies as early as possible so that you can make informed decisions about your RustConf experience. We hope to have the opportunity to host you!
If you have any questions or concerns about your health and safety at RustConf or in related spaces during the lead-up to our event, please contact our team at rustconf@rustfoundation.org.
During the event, we will respond to any concerns raised to our team at registration or via our Discord server (invites to come). As our entire team will be onsite, email responses might be delayed during the event but we will strive to get back to you quickly.
Respiratory Illness Policy
The RustConf 2026 respiratory illness policy is based on realistic enforceability. In other words, while we want RustConf attendees to feel safe, healthy, and accommodated, we do not want to misrepresent our limited ability to ensure that every attendee complies properly with these guidelines during the entire event.
Because there is no way for us to guarantee that you will not catch a contagious illness while attending RustConf in person, we encourage you to prioritize your personal health, safety, and comfort when making your plans. If you are immunocompromised or if you understandably do not wish to risk catching a virus, we encourage you to attend virtually. The virtual RustConf experience will be free of charge, and we plan to make it as valuable and immersive as possible!
Our mask, test, and vaccine policies below are subject to change based on Montreal’s local regulations and the state of COVID at the time of the event. We encourage you to check this resource regularly prior to visiting Canada.
Masks
Masks are recommended, but not currently required, to attend RustConf 2026. We strongly advise you to bring your own N95 mask but we will have some available onsite as well. We particularly encourage high-risk individuals and/or those with immunocompromised family members or colleagues to wear an N95 mask while attending RustConf, or to attend virtually. You must respect other RustConf guests who choose to wear a mask. Those who fail to do so will be asked to leave.
Tests
While we are not currently planning to require a negative COVID test to attend, we strongly encourage all attendees to take a COVID test before traveling to the event and upon return. We also recommend that you bring a COVID self-test with you in case you feel unwell during your travels. Please remain at home/do not enter the event if you test positive for COVID or begin displaying symptoms.
Vaccines
While we strongly encourage all RustConf attendees to be up-to-date on their influenza shots, COVID vaccinations/boosters, and other preventative vaccines to reduce the spread of illness, we will not require proof of vaccination upon entry.
Dietary Restrictions
If you are attending RustConf 2026 in person and have a food allergy or dietary restriction, please disclose your requirements during registration by August 23. We aim to provide a variety of choices to cater to various needs, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, kosher, and halal.
Accessibility
Our conference venue is fully accessible with ramps and elevators. Men’s, women’s, and gender-neutral restrooms will be available. Restrooms are wheelchair and scooter accessible. Livestreamed talks will feature auto-captioning for our virtual attendees. More details on venue accessibility can be found here.
